About Kopano:
Madikwe Safari Lodge-Kopana is one of four properties known collectively as Madikwe Safari Lodge and all four properties are situated in the central-eastern region of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve-one of South Africa’s largest Big 5 game reserves. The area surrounding the lodge is well known for its rich biodiversity and provides some of the best game-viewing opportunities on the reserve.
Tucked away in the wilderness, Kopano offers a more personal experience of the Madikwe Game Reserve in an intimate environment well off the beaten track. Kopano, which means “small gathering” in Setswana, is just that – its four luxury suites promise total privacy and are ideal for couples or family groups (if booked out on an exclusive use basis).
This classic timber, stone, and thatch lodge brings to mind a traditional African homestead and its open communal spaces provide beautiful views across Madikwe Game Reserve. The lounge area contains a library and has comfortable sofas and chairs gathered around a large, stone fireplace.The dining area, generous viewing deck, and outdoor boma and firepit area, offer the perfect setting for delicious meals and socialising alongside the fire, under the stars.
A late morning spent by the sparkling Kopano pool, overlooking a waterhole, is the perfect way to unwind or guests can indulge in an in-room spa and beauty treatment at the hands of the lodge’s expert therapists.
Guests are accommodated in one of four luxurious, air conditioned suites.Each spacious suite has an en-suite bathroom, private viewing deck, open-air shower, and plunge pool.
Activities include morning and afternoon game drives with experienced guides in the spectacular and diverse Big 5 reserve; guided bush-walks; star-gazing; birding; conservation activities; indulgent spa treatments and more.
If the lodge is booked on an exclusive basis, family vehicle safaris are on offer in the mid-morning as well, though these are not possible for youngsters aged under 2 years. However, there is a babysitting service and a wonderful range of things to do for children- such as bush orientation, bug CSI, track pack with Plaster of Paris, dung tracking, baking in the lodge’s kitchen, making pizzas in the boma, star gazing, and games nights.

Rooms:
Guest accommodation at Kopano consists of four luxurious, air conditioned suites, all linked to the main lodge via beautifully maintained pathways through the trees. The thatched suites are spaced a fair distance apart from each other, offering ample privacy, and each suite has a private viewing deck offering incredible views over the plains of Madikwe Game Reserve.
Constructed from natural timber and stone, the open-plan suites are light,spacious and airy with large picture windows and glass-fronted doors opening onto the viewing deck.
Comfortable extra- length King-size beds (or twin extra-length singles) and a fireplace are shared with the lounge space which features a comfortable sofa, a tea and coffee station, and a mini-bar. The en-suite bathroom area features a separate flush toilet, twin washbasins, a luxurious oval bath, and a shower. On the outdoor viewing deck, there is an outdoor shower, and a private plunge pool.
