Madikwe Safari Lodge -Dithaba is one of four properties known collectively as Madikwe Safari Lodge and all four properties are situated in the central-eastern region of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve-one of South Africa’s largest Big 5 game reserves.
Enjoy a game reserve getaway in the truest sense. Dithaba Lodge is the smallest and most intimate of the Madikwe Safari Lodge camps and features only four luxury, private suites that can accommodate solo travellers, couples or family groups (if booked out on an exclusive use basis).

The local dialect meaning of Dithaba is “mountain’ and the lodge is situated on a hillside offering a magnificent view over the open plains of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve.
The main lodge is a classic timber, stone, and thatch structure featuring comfortable seating areas, with the covered outdoor living room offering beanbags and cushions on the floor for casual relaxation. Expansive wooden decks are perfect lookout points for game spotting and maximise the incredible views. The décor is light and neutral, with tree trunks used as wooden beams, and complements the lodge’s exterior, blending into the surrounding savannah. There are fireplaces both inside and outdoors for chilly winter evenings, as well as pizza ovens for fun dining, and guests are invited to socialise with other guests and enjoy sundowners (and the views) on the Star Deck. Delicious bush dinners around the boma fire, under the stars, makes for the ideal conclusion to a perfect day.

Each of the air-conditioned suites is beautifully appointed and features en-suite bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers, a private plunge pool and private viewing deck- the perfect escape for those who simply prefer the sound of nature and little else.

Activities include morning and afternoon game drives with experienced guides in the spectacular and diverse Big 5 reserve; guided bush-walks; star-gazing; birding; conservation activities; indulgent spa treatments and more.
If the lodge is booked on an exclusive basis, family vehicle safaris are on offer in the mid-morning as well, though these are not possible for youngsters aged under 2 years. However, there is a babysitting service and a wonderful range of things to do for children- such as bush orientation, bug CSI, track pack with Plaster of Paris, dung tracking, baking in the lodge’s kitchen, making pizzas in the boma, star gazing, and games nights.

Rooms

Guest accommodation at Dithaba consists of four luxurious, air conditioned suites, all linked to the communal lodge via neat tracks through the trees. The suites are spaced a fair distance apart from each other, offering ample privacy and have private viewing decks offering incredible views over the plains of Madikwe Game Reserve.
Constructed from natural materials similar to the main building, the suites are spacious and airy and have comfortable extra- length King-size beds (or twin extra-length singles) and a fireplace shared with the lounge space. The lounge features a comfortable sofa, rattan tables, storage furniture, and a mini-bar. The en-suite bathroom area features a separate flush toilet, twin washbasins, a luxurious oval bath, and a shower. On the outdoor viewing deck, there is an outdoor shower, and a private plunge pool. All suites are beautifully decorated in natural, African-inspired colours, and two may be configured as triple rooms, with the addition of a sleeper couch.
