About Madikwe River Lodge:
Located in the magnificent Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa’s North-West Province, Madikwe River Lodge is the ideal Big 5 malaria-free safari destination for families, group conferences, and spectacular, scenic wedding celebrations.
The lodge is perfectly secluded in the lush riverine forest on the banks of the Marico River and its elevated common areas and viewing deck offer spectacular views of the wildlife coming down to the river to drink. The timber and thatch main lodge is accessed via a wooden walkway over the Marico River and features the reception and a comfortable lounge and TV area with vaulted ceilings, providing a relaxed space for guests to gather and socialise, or to simply unwind with a good book. A well-stocked bar offers a variety of beverages, from signature cocktails to fine wines, along with stunning views of the river.
Madikwe River Lodge offers guests comfortable family-friendly safari accommodation in one of 16 split-level thatched chalets set in the lodge’s lush gardens. Each beautifully appointed chalet is individually finished to create a luxurious African feel and offers an en-suite bathroom and shower with a full range of guest amenities, air conditioning and ceiling fans, complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, and a private wooden viewing deck with incredible views over the river. The Deluxe River Family Chalets are perfect for families with young children, while the spacious Luxury River Suite includes a separate lounge area and an outdoor shower.
Game viewing is the primary activity at the lodge, with Madikwe being the fourth most abundant game reserve in South Africa, and boasting the second biggest elephant population. Early morning and late afternoon game drives are conducted daily by the lodge’s experienced guides, who willingly share their knowledge of the African flora and fauna found in the area. Guided game walks also offer the perfect opportunity to enjoy the surrounding wilderness on a more intimate level, while specialised Bumble Drives are available for younger guests. These drives are shorter and designed to make game drives fun and exciting for little children.
In between safari activities, guests can relax and soak up the sun on the deck next to the sparkling lodge pool, or take a leisurely stroll through the vibrant gardens and enjoy the incredible birdlife found in the area. Facilities at the lodge include an electric fence surrounding the lodge, a rock pool (in addition to the pool at the main lodge), and a conferencing area. These air-conditioned chalets are secluded within the riverine forest and are beautifully appointed and feature African- inspired decor. The 9 Deluxe River Chalets each feature a spacious bedroom furnished with a comfortable double bed (or two single beds) and a modern, en-suite bathroom fitted with a large bath, shower, toilet and double basin. A comfortable seating area opens onto a private deck with stunning views of the river and surrounding riverine forest. The chalet has air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, and a bar fridge.
The 6 Deluxe River Family Chalets are spacious and airy, and each have one bedroom furnished with a double bed (or two single beds). The modern, en-suite bathroom is fitted with a large bath, shower, toilet and double basin. A comfortable seating area has a double sleeper couch suitable for two children and large glass fronted doors opening onto a private deck with stunning views of the river and surrounding riverine forest. The chalet has air conditioning, a tea and coffee station, and a bar fridge.
The Luxury River Chalet features a spacious, private lounge area with large, glass-fronted doors leading out onto a viewing deck overlooking the Groot Marico River. The well appointed bedroom is furnished with a comfortable King-size bed and the modern, en-suite bathroom is fitted with a bath, toilet and double vanity, as well as an outdoor shower. The chalet has air conditioning, a tea and coffee station, and a bar fridge.
