About Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge
Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge is a community-based safari lodge, wholly-owned by the Balete Ba Lekgophung Community, and is the first fully owned community-based Safari Lodge to be established in South Africa.
Perfectly situated on the Tweedepoort Ridge to the west of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, Buffalo Ridge provides incredible views of the ravine below and out across Madikwe’s northern plains and inselbergs.
A wooden bridge extending across a ravine covered in Rock Fig trees leads guests into Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge.The stone, timber and thatch main lodge covers two tiers and the living areas include a dining room, comfortable lounge, and upper and lower deck. Guests can relax on the expansive viewing deck in the shade of the towering Rock Figs, enjoy a delicious meal in the welcoming dining area or unwind with a refreshing dip in the plunge pool overlooking Madikwe’s plains.
This family-friendly lodge offers guest accommodation in a choice of eight luxurious thatch-and-stone chalets, positioned for optimal privacy along the rugged slopes of the ridge.Each beautifully-appointed chalet sleeps two people and features a mini lounge, en-suite bathroom, and double sliding doors that open onto an elevated wooden deck from where guests can enjoy incredible views of this bushveld paradise.
The lodge offers a range of safari activities to ensure guests have ample opportunity to explore Madikwe- including twice-daily game drives in open 4X4 vehicles; guided bush walks; birding safaris; bush sundowners, and visits to the reserve’s hides Guests can also enjoy star-gazing, engaging stories of local lore and delicious, locally-inspired and made dinners around a crackling bonfire..
On game drives, guests can expect to spot a rich diversity of game, from the Big Five to cheetah, wild dog, kudu, springbok, eland, red hartebeest, giraffe, and impala, as well as numerous bird species, under the guidance of the lodge’s expert rangers.
(While Buffalo Ridge is family friendly, children aged six years or younger are not permitted on game drives due to safety concerns. However, mini morning children’s game drives can be pre-arranged.)

Rooms
Guests are accommodated in eight luxury, timber and thatch chalets extending along the escarpment and overlooking the bushveld below.
Each chalet is large and spacious with glass sliding doors and a private viewing deck designed to make the most of the spectacular views across the reserve. The air conditioned chalets are beautifully appointed and feature African- inspired decor, comfortable King-size beds and a stone fireplace for chilly winter evenings..
